The National Science Foundation is currently accepting nominations for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). This award is considered the highest recognition that a K-12 mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. Two Tennessee winners are selected each year and are invited to Washington D.C. for the recognition ceremony. In addition, the national winners receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.
Principals, teachers, parents, students, or members of the general public may nominate exceptional mathematics and science (including computer science) teachers. Educators may self-nominate for this award. Each year, awards alternate between elementary and secondary teachers. In the 2019 award cycle, nominees must be a 7-12 mathematics or science teacher.
